EVMS 2004 Roadmap

Here is a list of several of the items the EVMS team will be working on this year, and the general timeframe in which we hope to have them complete. If you have comments or questions about this list, or have suggestions for additional features, please send email to evms-devel@lists.sf.net.

Upcoming Features

  • Clustering

    • OpenGFS FSIM: Provide a convenient mechanism for coordinating with Linux's open-source cluster-file-system. (2.3)
    • Enhancements to the current core clustering support. (2.3)

  • Software-RAID

    • Resize: Allow adding new disks to existing Software-RAID devices.
      • RAID-0 (2.4)
      • RAID-4/5 (2.4)
    • Convert Software-RAID to use Device-Mapper
      • RAID-Linear (2.3)
      • RAID-0 (2.3)
      • RAID-1 (2.5)
      • RAID-4/5 (2.5)
      • RAID-Multipath (2.3)
    • Support new Super-Block format in the 2.6 kernel (2.5)

  • Test Suite: Provide a test-suite for performing automated testing of EVMS (2.3)

  • BBR: Rewrite BBR and Snapshot kernel modules based on code from the current snapshot module. (2.5)

    • New EVMS BBR plugin to work with this new kernel module.
    • Update existing EVMS plugin to allow for converting to the new plugin.

  • Metadata Backups: Provide a mechanism for backing up and restoring all volume metadata. (2.5)

  • LVM2 Volumes: New plugin to recognize LVM2 volumes and volume groups. (2.4)

  • NTFS: New plugin to recognize and manage NT filesystems. (2.4)
